Most of Erving’s housing sits in the village along Route 2 and up the side roads, with a lot of property backing directly onto woods. That means whole-tree work rather than street trees: dead pine and ash near houses, storm-damaged hardwood, and driveway clearance on steep, narrow approaches.

Ash and pine

Two species dominate the removal work around here. Ash is being worked through by emerald ash borer, and dead ash goes brittle unusually fast, which makes it both a higher priority and more dangerous the longer it stands. Large white pine sheds limbs and tops out in wind, and Erving has a lot of it. If you have either near a house or driveway, it is worth looking at before the next storm rather than after.

Wetlands and the Millers River

Properties near the Millers River, Keyup Brook, or any of the smaller streams may fall within wetland or riverfront buffer, which brings the Conservation Commission into clearing projects under the Wetlands Protection Act. For a single hazard tree this is usually straightforward; for meaningful clearing, start that conversation with the town early.
